â 160.710.   Purple star campus designation â definition â criteria. â 1.  As used in this section, the following terms mean: â (1)  "Military connected student" , a student enrolled in a school district or charter school who: â (a)  Is a dependent of a current or former member of the Armed Forces of the United States, the Missouri National Guard, or any reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States; or â (b)  Was a dependent of a member of the Armed Forces of the United States, the Missouri National Guard, or any reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States who was killed while on active duty. â 2.  The department of elementary and secondary education shall designate a school district as a purple star campus if the school district applies and qualifies for the designation under this section. â 3.  To qualify as a purple star campus, a school district shall: â (1)  Designate a staff member as a military liaison to serve as the point of contact between the school district and military connected students and their families; â (2)  Identify military connected students enrolled in the school district; â (3)  Determine appropriate services available to military connected students; â (4)  Coordinate programs relevant to military connected students; â (5)  Maintain on the school district website an easily accessible webpage that includes resources for military connected students and their families, including information regarding: â (a)  Relocation to, enrollment at, registration at, and transferring records to the school district; â (b)  Academic planning, course sequences, and advanced classes available; â (c)  Counseling and other support services available for military connected students enrolled in the school district; â (d)  The military liaison designated under subdivision (1) of this section; â (6)  Establish and maintain a transition program led by the students, when appropriate, that assists military connected students in transitioning into the school district; â (7)  Offer professional development and education for staff members on issues related to military connected students; and â (8)  Offer at least one of the following programs: â (a)  A resolution showing support for military connected students and their families; â (b)  Recognition of the military holidays with relevant events hosted by the school district; or â (c)  A partnership with a local military installation that provides opportunities for active duty military members to volunteer with the school district, speak at an assembly, or host a field trip.
